Each year our farmers figure out the math and do their best to plan a steady supply of sweet corn for the season. That means they plant corn every few days, totaling about 50 separate plantings of several varieties that have different seed to harvest days. Sometimes it all works out just as planned. But sometimes, when our farmers go out to check the field, a later planting of corn is ready ahead of it's time. When that happens, we will open our corn field for pop-up Pick-Your-Own corn days. We only know a day or two in advance and it will only last for a day or two at a time. It can occur multiple times throughout a single corn season and depends mostly on the growing conditions the weather provides and how well our farmers do math!
